I had a very interesting chat with a client this morning who said that he actually exercised more on his holiday to Cyprus than he does at home! Also, after a particularly busy, boozy period just before his holiday, he barely had a drop of alcohol whilst on holiday!
I am sure this is an exception, but I would love to hear if you managed to do anything similar whilst you were away.
So, now that the Summer holidays have been and gone and we are heading towards the Autumn how do you feel about your exercise regime now that you are likely to be showing less flesh as the weather gradually starts to take a turn for the worse?
Were you happy with your body shape on holiday or did you think that as soon as you get back home you are heading for the gym? From what we have seen in the first few days of September I think there is an element of this; we have already had the same amount of new client consultations this week than we did in the whole of September last year.
September is often seen as “new start” time of year in a similar way to January but without the New Year’s resolutions. So, if you are looking to re-boot your exercise regime or start a completely new regime what should you do?
- In order to get the best results it’s vital to be specific with your targets; be very sure about what you want to achieve ie drop a dress size, reduce your waist line by 2 inches
- Be very specific about the time period in which you want to achieve your goals; don’t just meander along seeing if and when the results come. eg By 1st December I want a 34 inch waist/to drop a dress size/run a 5k in under 35 mins
- Seek professional advice from a Personal Trainer, you wont need to book a load of sessions. Most Personal Trainers will offer a free consultation, as we do, and you can get lots of good advice on how to achieve your health and fitness goals
- Choose an activity that you enjoy, at least a little bit, so there is more chance you will stick to it over a 2-3 month period.
So, these are just a few pointers to help you get back into your exercise regime after the holidays, but please feel free to contact us directly for any specific questions and advice.
