Danielle came to us via our Daytime Circuits classes and has now decided to try some 1-2-1 Personal Training sessions. Here are her thoughts on her first session. I think some of her views may strike a chord with some people as they consider engaging a Personal Trainer……..
“My First Session at Bodyline Studios, Ealing, London”
I had a consultation and fitness level test with Richard at Bodyline Studios in Ealing yesterday. I have a few aches and pains today and it confirmed how out of shape I am but, that was the point of the session!
Roy, the owner from Bodyline, asked me last week if I would like a free consultation and fitness test… it was perfect timing for me so I took up the offer straight away. I am not sure if he knew at this point quite how unfit I am, but soon to find out…
My fitness levels have been quickly decreasing over the last 5 years and my weight the total opposite; creeping up for the last few years. Knee injuries, two minor operations, general aches and pains, having children and trying to balance work and being a mum have all been my valid excuses over the last few years!
My youngest child now 18 months old, currently being the heaviest and un-fittest I’ve ever been coupled with lots of aches and pains in my knees, neck, shoulders and back, I have been thinking recently (yes only thinking!) I cannot let it continue to get worse, I want to make the time and put in the effort to make changes. I’ve tried nearly every diet going, but ultimately I know it’s my lack of moving and exercise that is my main problem…and maybe my love of cake and chocolate!!
My consultation started with 5 minutes on the treadmill, a brisk walk, and after a few minutes I was already mildly out of breath and my knees already warming up! I explained my injuries, pains and my concerns and what I want to achieve (improve fitness,
health, core strength and of course lose weight and fat) and Richard seems to be understanding of this. If I didn’t feel comfortable with an exercise straight away he gave me a different way of working the same muscles but in a way I was more comfortable with… I know after a few sessions he won’t be quite so kind, and that’s fine, I need to be pushed, and my body will get used to the exercises.
I have made the decision to come to Bodyline Gym to a Personal Trainer for that reason.
Important for me personally, is to have a Trainer that can understand both my physiological and actual aches and pains to be able to make this successful. After meeting the team at Bodyline I believe this will work and I am looking forward to my next workout, I have two sessions per week planned for the next 6 weeks. I know I am going to have to put in a lot of effort and commit to the sessions as well as do some exercises at home. I have a treadmill at home which I plan to use tonight, as long as I can find another place for all the jackets!
I know some people who are out of shape for whatever reason feel very conscious and scared about walking in to a gym full of fit and healthy people, but I believe you really don’t need to. I think Trainers must like a challenge and surely is the reason they are in the business – I doubt that Trainers only want to help fit people get fitter, although that must be a pleasure, surely they achieve job satisfaction when they work with someone very out of shape and get them feeling better and looking better and able to do things they couldn’t before?… Well that’s my thoughts anyway and I’m sticking to it, as it helps me!
An added bonus at Bodyline is Lisa providing in-house Osteopathy; I have been to Lisa twice, she has helped with my headaches as well as my back, neck and shoulder aches, great deep tissue massages, as well as acupuncture and many other methods.
To conclude I feel much better for making the first step and choosing Bodyline as they seem to have a good team all with different expertise which works perfectly for me.
